The Cochrane approach: Evidence-based health.

Cochrane is an independent international network that brings together researchers, healthcare professionals, patients, and caregivers from around the world, with the aim of providing reliable and accessible health information.
Since its founding in 1993, Cochrane has focused on generating high-quality scientific evidence to improve health decision-making, with more than 100,000 members in 190 countries.
The Iberoamerican Cochrane Centre is an internationally recognized institution within Cochrane that coordinates the Iberoamerican Cochrane Network, which includes Spain and 18 other Spanish-speaking countries. In this way, Cochrane promotes an evidence-based vision of health aimed at all those seeking informed and effective healthcare decisions.
Cochrane Balearic Islands Group

The Cochrane Balearic Islands Group is an institution affiliated with Cochrane Iberoamerica, established in 2024 with the aim of bringing high-quality scientific evidence closer to healthcare professionals, public policy makers, and the citizens of the Balearic Islands.
We are part of Cochrane’s international network, a non-profit organization globally recognized for its work in producing rigorous and independent systematic reviews. Our group serves as a local hub, promoting the dissemination, training, and use of Cochrane evidence within the healthcare and social context of the Balearic Islands.
From our base at the Health Research Institute of the Balearic Islands (IdISBa), we work to make scientific knowledge accessible, understandable, and useful for those making decisions that affect people’s health.
Objectives

The group is structured around three main objectives:
-
Promote access to Cochrane evidece
We want every professional, patient, or institution in the Balearic Islands to have easy access to Cochrane reviews, in their own language, with clear guidance on how to apply them in practice. -
To promote the use of evidence in decision-making
We support healthcare professionals, clinical teams, and managers in the critical and contextualized use of scientific evidence, promoting a more effective, safe, and equitable healthcare system. -
trengthen local capacities in evidence synthesis and evaluation
Ofrecemos formación, talleres y asesoramiento metodológico a investigadores, estudiantes y clínicos que deseen formarse en el enfoque Cochrane y contribuir a la mejora del conocimiento científico.
Activities

The integration of the group into Cochrane Ibero-America maximizes IdISBa’s capabilities to promote evidence-based health through:
- Improvement of decision-making: Facilitating access to reliable, high-quality evidence for healthcare professionals and policymakers to base their decisions on.
- Development and dissemination of reliable evidence: Facilitating access to Cochrane reviews in Spanish and Catalan, and expanding their reach among healthcare professionals and the general population.
- Support for local research: Providing methodological support for regional and international projects, strengthening their scientific impact.
- Training and education: Organizing workshops and activities to promote a culture of continuous learning in evidence-based medicine.
- Strengthening collaborative networks: Collaborating with universities, healthcare institutions, and government agencies to implement evidence-based practices in the region.
Who can collaborate?

The Cochrane Balearic Islands Group is open to collaboration with healthcare professionals, researchers, educators, managers, and citizens interested in improving the healthcare system through the use of scientific evidence.
We seek individuals and institutions committed to evidence-centered care, rigor, and transparency, who wish to participate in activities such as:
