DIABETEXT AWARD, A PROJECT THAT HAS CREATED A DIGITAL TOOL TO SUPPORT THE CARE OF PEOPLE WITH DIABETES THROUGH MOBILE PHONES IN THE BALEARIC ISLANDS.
On June 17th, members of GRAPP-caIB received the award for the best abstract at the conference. 16th International Primary Care Diabetes Europe Conference http://www.pcdeconference.org/. The abstract of the project titled “DiabeText, an mHealth intervention to support diabetes self-management, improves quality of life and diabetes self-efficacy in people with type 2 diabetes.” was awarded with recognition from the organization and granted 1000€. Rocío Zamanillo presentó el study during the plenary session that took place on June 16th at 10:00.
These are the results of the clinical trial conducted in primary care with 742 participants. In this study, they evaluated the effectiveness of the DiabeText intervention, which involved sending personalized text messages based on the clinical history data of people with type 2 diabetes, to inform them on how to take their medication properly for blood sugar management and to follow healthy lifestyle habits.. After the presentation, the audience, composed mainly of general practitioners, showed interest in learning about patient acceptance, which is very positive as shown by our qualitative results. They also expressed curiosity about how we managed to personalize the messages based on the data from the medical history. clinical, as it is a major challenge to design digital tools that leverage this information, and finally, they asked about the use of mobile phones in people with an average age of 65, which is 98% according to data from the Spanish Institute of Statistics, and in our study, it has not been a barrier.
The study, led by Dr. Ignacio Ricci, has received funding for implementation in the health service of the Balearic Islands, and during the award presentation, it was announced that we are working to make this tool a reality for people with type 2 diabetes registered in IbSalut en un futuro próximo.
