Who we are

The research group "Primary Care, Health Services, and Evidence-Based Medicine" (EVISAP) is part of the Health Research Institute of the Balearic Islands (IdISBa) and belongs to the research area of public health, epidemiology, clinical research, and health services.

The research group “Primary Care, Health Services, and Evidence-Based Medicine” (EVISAP) is part of the Health Research Institute of the Balearic Islands (IdISBa) and belongs to the research area of public health, epidemiology, clinical research, and health services.
EVISAP is a multidisciplinary research group linked to the Health Research Institute Illes Balears (IdISBa) and the Primary Care Management of Mallorca. Our team consists of professionals in medicine, nursing, psychology, biology, pharmacy, epidemiology, and nutrition, all working towards a common goal: improving the health and well-being of the population through applied research.
We specialize in the design, development, and evaluation of innovative interventions in public health and primary care, with a particular focus on:

  • The prevention and promotion of mental health, both in primary care and in the educational (community) setting.
  • The prevention and management of chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes.
  • Patient safety, incorporating the voice of healthcare system users.
  • The use of digital health tools that facilitate self-care and improve healthcare delivery.

We are committed to rigorous yet accessible, evidence-based science aimed at generating real impact in society. Our research lines are directly connected to the needs of healthcare professionals, public managers, and the community.
EVISAP is part of excellence networks such as CIBERESP and RICAPPS, and actively collaborates with leading organizations such as Cochrane Iberoamérica, EFSA, EAACI, and the World Health Organization. We also lead the Cochrane Balearic Islands group, promoting the production and use of systematic reviews to support more informed health decision-making.
Since 2019, we have published more than 60 scientific articles, developed tools such as DiabeText and SinergiAPS, and coordinated studies in over 100 health centers across Spain. All of this with a clear focus on knowledge transfer: we want our research to translate into real improvements for people.

OUR RESEARCH PROJECTS

Work with us

The Health Research Institute of the Balearic Islands (IdISBa) was created on December 23, 2013.

It is composed of the Son Espases University Hospital, the Primary Care sector of Mallorca, the University Institute of Health Sciences Research (IUNICS), the Son Llàtzer Hospital, and the Blood and Tissue Bank Foundation of the Balearic Islands. All of them contribute human capital, which allows increasing the critical research mass and fostering collaborations for the development of research projects between services and professionals in the healthcare sector. IdISBa has been awarded the ‘HR Excellence in Research’ recognition by the European Commission, certifying it as a research center committed to the continuous improvement of its human resources policies; an international provider of scientific work in an environment conducive and stimulating for the development of a research career, in accordance with the principles of “Charter & Code” (European Charter for Researchers and Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers), adopted by the EU in 2005.

IdISBa is committed to excellence in research and the promotion of technology and knowledge transfer to healthcare services and industries. Furthermore, it asserts that these goals cannot be achieved without the promotion and attraction of exceptional scientific talent. Consequently, IdISBa adopted the “Charter and Code” in August 2015 and, by doing so, committed to aligning its policies and practices with the recommendations of the European Commission, aiming to provide a stimulating and favorable working environment for researchers, allowing for their growth and professional development. (For more information, please consult the Human Resources page of IdISBa). On the other hand, IdISBa complies with Decree 17/2019, of March 15, 2019, which approves the Statute of Research Staff, specifying that health research institutes, within the framework of existing labor regulations, must provide their workers with measures that facilitate the reconciliation of work and family life, including the possibility of reducing working hours, remote work, and flexible schedules (Decree on Research Career). You can follow our job offers on the IdISBa Human Resources department page.

Study with us

Training researchers at all stages

At EVISAP, we have extensive experience and a strong commitment to training researchers at all stages, from undergraduate students to postdoctoral fellows.
Regarding doctoral studies, we collaborate with the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) in various doctoral programs, especially the Doctorate in Global Health, Health Services, and Social Care. Over the past five years, we have supervised more than ten theses, all with excellent outcomes.
Additionally, through agreements with both UIB and other universities, we supervise master’s theses, as well as final undergraduate projects and training internships. In collaboration with the Primary Care Management Teaching Unit of Mallorca, we annually provide research training to Family Medicine residents (R3 and R4).
If you are interested in studying with us, please request more information through this form.

Particupate in our studies

Involving people in research

The type of research we conduct at EVISAP is deeply focused on improving people’s health. To achieve this, we work closely with individuals—both healthy and those with various health conditions—who represent the groups we aim to help.
There are several ways you can participate in our research:

  • Participating as a study subject. This includes clinical trials, surveys, and focus groups, among others. All our studies are approved by the Primary Care Research Committee and the Ethics Committee of the Balearic Islands, ensuring they adhere to the highest ethical and safety standards.
  • Collaborating in workshops and outreach events. These events are designed to share the results of our research with society, encouraging discussion and knowledge exchange. We participate in initiatives such as the European Researchers’ Night, Science Day, and Women and Science Day, among others.
  • Participating as a non-scientific collaborator. At EVISAP, we work alongside community members in designing, conducting, and disseminating our studies. Research “with” or “by” patients and community members—instead of “about” or “for” them—makes studies more relevant to the community’s interests. This collaboration also generates new research ideas and ensures our projects focus on what truly matters to people.

Would you like to participate in our studies? Contact us through this form, and we will get in touch with you as soon as possible.

Do you want to collaborate with health research being conducted in the Balearic Islands?

At IdISBa, we work to effectively translate research advancements into improvements in population health. Today's research is tomorrow's medicine, and societal support is a key element for this development.
